Working together with Maple Planning & Development, we’ve just submitted an Outline Planning Application for a development of five self-build detached housing plots near Hythe.
The site comprises an array of derelict but substantial former agricultural and commercial buildings, which were historically used for a range of purposes, including a piggery, car repairs and a coal yard.
Due to its size and complexity, the topography of the site was measured electronically by JC White Geomatics, using state of the art GPS equipment paired with a drone survey. This method was used to generate typical two-dimensional site plans, an orthophotoplan (similar to a very detailed satellite view) and, most importantly, a three-dimensional model of the surroundings under the form of a point cloud, which we synced with our 3D models of the house types.
A comprehensive landscape strategy for the wider site was prepared by Mark Hanton Studio, based on a thorough assessment of the local conditions, and KB Ecology ensured that the proposal would allow for the betterment of the natural landscaping across the site area, ultimately leading to an increase in biodiversity and the enhancement of native plant and animal species.
The imposing ragstone walls add to the character of the site and will be incorporated into the overall design, forming generous, private courtyards. The 2-storey, 4-bedroom detached houses are designed to blend into the landscape and will be carefully arranged in accordance with the site levels. All this, along with the proposed palette of natural materials, will result in a sympathetic development which respects the architectural character, proportion, and massing of the area. The proposal has been carefully thought out to be a sensible intervention and is intended to demonstrate commitment to high quality and environmentally conscious design.
