First steps
After an initial chat, the first step is for client and architect to meet, on site if possible, to discuss the project. At this stage, we like to explore what the client would like to achieve and to have a good understanding of the site and space. Issues such as budgets, styles of architecture, types of materials, timeframes and the client’s key priorities and wishes would be discussed. We can also look at other projects for ideas and inspiration.
This meeting is followed up by a proposal from gyd architects clarifying our interpretation of the brief along with costs for creating a design and other subsequent steps. These are agreed with the client and the terms of engagement are drawn up.
There is no charge for this initial meeting and proposal.

Creating a design
Based on the brief, gyd architects will bring its problem-solving creative skills and depth of experience to the table to develop a range of concepts and ideas for our client.
Following discussions, one final scheme will emerge which best meets the client’s brief and delivers a unique and special space.
We devise a range of techniques to communicate our concepts and ideas including hand drawings, 3D modelling and digital designs, which can be explored and amended.
Once an initial design is agreed, we will produce detailed plans and drawings which can be used for planning permission applications and to source quotes from builders and tradespeople.
Delivering your project
At all times, our priority is to ensure the wishes of the client and their requirements for the project are met, but in a way which minimises worry or stress. We appreciate that building projects are a big commitment for people and we work our hardest to make sure they proceed as smoothly as possible.
We are very experienced in all elements of RIBA plans of work and can look after planning permission applications, building regulations consent, commissioning of relevant surveys, briefing building companies/tradespeople and managing the entire building project.
Keeping control of this process is the best way to ensure building works stay on-time and within budget.
In some instances, the client may wish to manage building work themselves, based on plans drawn up by gyd architects. We would work with them to provide the information and support they need to proceed on this basis.
Contact
It gives us enormous satisfaction to be involved in the creation of new buildings, homes and extensions and to work with clients on places and spaces that enrich their working and domestic environment.
We believe that gyd architects can genuinely make a difference to people’s lives and would love to hear from anyone who would like to discuss their building needs and dreams with us.
