Location: Wye Downs, Kent
Architecture: Farm house conversion and restoration
gyd architects had the pleasure of working on this beautiful old farm house located in the heart of Kent, which was in need of a full modernisation. This included a number of internal alterations, along with a two story extension. The use of large Scandinavian windows allowed maximum light to flood into the new and existing spaces, maximising on views of the natural landscape that surrounds the property.
One challenge was to reposition the non compliant staircase, which was located behind the existing inglenook. The replacement was a purpose made oak staircase which was located within its own vaulted space. Finished with a bespoke light, designed to hang from the oak trusses.
To compliment the gardens around the house, the landscaping team created individual ‘rooms’, to be enjoyed at different times during the day.
