Paragraph 84 House
Location: Kent
Architect: Matthew Kettle
Architecture: Paragraph 84 House
RIBA: Stages 0-1
The Brief & Vision
We are currently undertaking a bespoke architectural study for a unique, isolated home set within a disused quarry in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Due to its highly sensitive location, the project is being developed under the strict guidelines of Paragraph 84 of the NPPF (formerly Paragraph 80), which allows for new homes in the open countryside only if the design is of exceptional, truly outstanding quality.
The architectural concept responds directly to the site’s rugged topography. Rather than imposing a standard structure onto the land, the design features bold, geometric volumes stacked over three levels. These forms cantilever in different directions, making the house appear as though it is naturally “growing” out of the bedrock and landscape.
